Heidelberg Zone Ice Cream Break

This is on P-day on Haupt Strasse, a pedestrian shopping zone.

Needed, new shoes

Elder Squires keeps loosing the end of his shoe. He glues it back on and it comes off. He finally decided to stop trying to glue it back on. He goes home in August.

Carol and the Ponds

These are pictures of Carol at two of the ponds in the Schwetzingen Gardens. The bottom picture is taken from the top of a grotto and rock garden plaza.

Looking down the garden trees

Great shot to give you and idea of how expansive the gardens are.

Beautiful Sculpted Trees

These are trees in the gardens at the Palace in Schwetzingen. They are probably 20-30 feet talk and have been forced to grow together to form arches. You see this all over the gardens.

Heidelberg Schloss Model

This is what the Heidelberg Schloss looked like in its glory days. The back side of the model is what you see from below and looking out across from Heilige Berg.

Elevation Chart

This shows you the elevation gain. We took the Mountain Train from the stop at the bottom, past the castle to Molkenkur, then changed to the older funicular train up to Koenig Stuhl.

Final Ascent to Koenig Stuhl

This is the final steep grade to reach our destination of Koenig Stuhl. The final slope is about 45 degrees.

Cable Safety

This is a picdture of the cable which pulls the funicular up the hill, It then is let out to let the cable car ride back down on the tracks.

Collision Course

This is riding the funicular railroad from downtown old Heidelberg up to Koenig Stuhl. It looks like we have a problem, but if you click on the picture you will see the bypass rails for us to safely go on up and the other train to come down.

Our meal at Talblick

The last item on the menu is called, "I can't decide what I want to eat." So we ordered it. It was a sampler of a steak, salmon, pork chop, chicken cutlet, sausage, tater tots, bacon and onion ring. It came with garlic potato and a deep fried cheeze ball. It also came with a large bowl of french fries, but that detracted from the scene. It was very delicious. Of course we haven't eaten since then.

Talblick Restaurant

This islooking out the window from the Talblick (Valley View) restaurant in Wilhelmsfield. We went there for Carol's birthday after we inspected the missionaries apartment in Michelstadt. It was a beautiful view.

3 of our youth in the Center.

This is Michael Bodmer, Frank Baader and Rachel Hansen at our family home evening and a farewell party for Rachel who has been an Au Pair in Worms. She is going back home for her sisters wedding. Michael is getting married in September.

Koenig Stuhl Mountain across from Heilige Berg

This tower is on Koenig Stuhl mountain above old Heidelberg. It is about 569 meters tall. The tower is a radio transmitting tower.

The Heidelberg Schloss (Castle)

This is a picture from Heilige Berg (Holy Mountain) looking out across the old town of Heidelberg with the Castle in the background. The scaffolding around the tower on the left is the framework for shoring up the tower. When done they will remove the scaffolding, but you will still not be able to enter that tower.

Beautiful Heidelberg

This is looking down from Philosopher's Way on Heilige Berg (Holy Mountain) The bridge is where Carol posed with the Affe Statue. In the background is the Heidelberg Schloss (Palace Ruins) in the background. You can see the Heilige Geist (Holy Ghost) directly above the bridge. These type of hills are what we see daily when we drive back and forth from Nussloch to the Center. The barge going under the bridge is about 150 feet long.

Carol and the Affe

This litle sculpture is on the side of the Neckar River next to the pedestrian bridge. We are getting ready to cross the river and walk up a path to the mountain in the background. This was on a P-Day.

Looking Down

This is the center of the Zeil Shopping Center.

Funnel in the Department Store Zeil

This is the front of the store and this is what the roof looks like. It appears to be a funnel coming through the building, but is part of the roof structure.

The Mimes

This is Manuelle, Ines and Madlen with 4 mimes. The two on the end in gray stayed poised and two of them would interact with the people. This is in front of the Zeil Department Store.

Glass Roof at the Zeil Shopping Center in Frankfurt

This is inside the 6 story very modern, very new shopping Center in downtown Frankfurt.

After a visit to the Frankfurt Temple for the Young Adult baptismal session and Institute Class we stopped by downtown Frankfurt. This roof undulates through the building. I imagine it would be rather spectacular during a heavy rainstorm with a river running through the building.

Church of the Reformation in Frankfurt

This is a picture of Ines, Manuelle, Sister Glissmeyer and Madlen in the Church. There were such statues all over inside.

The Hunt

Sister Eggleston and I standing next to a statute on a pond depicting the hunts which took place in the surrounding area.

Schematic of the Gardens at the Palace in Schwetzingen

This is a metal base relief of the gardens at the Palace. The gardens cover 50 acres.

The Three Wisemen

This is on a building in downtown Schwetzingen. Click on the picture to get the full size. Many of the houses on this street have this sculptures.

Schwetzingen Palace

This is Sister Eggleston (Vernal, Utah)and Sister Moser (South Jordan, Utah) and at the Schloss (Palace) in Schwetzingen. The gardens are 50 acres of beauty. Ponds, streams, small waterfalls, geese, swans, ducks, grottos, small mosques (as a place of wisdom, not a place for a Muslim to worship), small lake, sculpted trees and bushes.

Typical Neighborhood Intersection

This is what a an intersection looks like. The dashed line on the road is in lieu of a stopsign. If you are on a street with a yellow diamond signpost you have the right of way and the person having this dashed line in their lane means they are to stop until it is clear. If you are on a road without a yellow diamond signpost you must yield to the person or your right. Because of the hedges right up to the intersection you need to slow down so you can stop if you see someone coming from your right. The normal neighborhood speed limit is 30 kilometers or 18 mph. This particular street has two cameras on it to take a picture if you exceed the posted speed limit by more than 5 mph.
