Frankfurt Germany Temple

This is our first time going tot he Frankfurt Temple. It is a beautiful setting.

Bedroom

This is our cozy bedroom. The pillows are 30 inches square.

Hamming it Up for the Camera

Put the missionaries in front of a camera and they really like hamming it up.

YSA VIdeo Night

Enjoying the video The Incredibles. We had 8 YSA here and they had a ball, popcorn, soda pop, candy. This is after they played Wii bowling, tennis and guitar hero.

Heidelberg Schloss

Carol and I are on the Fussganger (Pedestrian Bridge over the Neckar) looking up towards the Heidelberg Castle. Typical houses and apartments for the area.

Mossy Walls

This is on the trail between the Hinterburg Ruine and the Mittelburg. Everywhere you go there is moss on the walls, on the trees, on the sidewalks, etc. I believe it has rained probably 14 weeks out of the 4 months we have been here. This was a rare beautiful day and we enjoyed getting out and walking around in the hills.

Steinnach on the Neckar

This is looking up the Neckar River towards Steinnach with Eberbach (Wild Boar on the River) in the background.

Game Night

Playing Ligretto and Quiddler.

Family Home Evening

This is a Family Home Evening after dinner. The Elders are giving a spritual thought. We average about 8-10 at FHE. Many of the youth still live with their parents and thus are with their families during FHE. Afterwards they had a table game night.

Walking Spooky Trees

Here you see a group dressed up as trees with faces running around yelling "HALLOOO" to everyone on the street. Heidelberg's eqivalent of Carnival in New Orleans. Very laid back and very safe Saw a few inebriated, but most were just enjoying the parade. It took about 2 hours to see the entire parade.

Fasching Parade on Hauptstrasse

Left to right, Elder Glissmeyer, Sister Jensen, Sister Glissmeyer, Sister Mueller, Elder Squires and Elder Roberts. This was Elder Roberts last day in Germany. He went home the next day.

Earl's Coat of Arms

This is the Coat of Arms at the Earls castle and is over the entrance to the courtyard.

The Earl's Castle

This is called the Mittleburg, or middle castle fortress. It is inhabited by an Earl. Wished we could have gone inside, but alas no entrance permitted.

Schwalben Nest Steps to Tower

Do I really want to climb these steps up to the lookout tower of the Schwalbennest. Well, yes, because that is why we came to look at these old fortress castles. This one was used as a lookout tower and then was later used by the Roman's as a signal station.

The Hinterburg Tower

We are getting ready to climb the tower. It was pitch black inside. Had to walk very slowly and slide your feet to find the steps and hold fast to the metal railing.

Elder Glissmeyer climbing the stairs into the ruins

This is myself standing there so the photographer can get a better picture. I am getting ready to enter the main part of the Hinterburg ruins. The tower is behind me.

Berg Ruins Hinterburg in Neckar Steinnach

This castle fortress is on a hillside overlooking the Neckar River in Neckar Steinnach. It was build in the year 1120. One of the most famous occupants was Billiger the writer of the Niebelung Songs, which are very famous in Germany. We climbed to the the top of the tower and had great views. This is about 20 Kilometers east of Heidelberg.
